So I have an idea, it's called Dropsuit Resource Management System. It's basically an idea to make basic frames viable and unpredictable. I know it's probably not viable or plausible in dust and maybe not legion but it's a great system.
I propose:
Non role specific suits can allot a number of resources, based on frame size, and meta level to the high, low, equipment, weapon and grenade slots. Meaning you can opt into and out of things per fitting that may or may not fit your playstyle, resources permitting, to make your suit feel a bit more like home. Say a basic medium frame has 25 points at standard level and each slot high/low costs 2, I want 5 high and low, super duper tanked out right? I only have 5 points left.. each weapon slot costs 5 and its required for every suit to have 1 weapon. I'm limited to 1 weapon, 0 grenade and 0 equip. Play with the numbers.
With a set parameter of what is required against what a suit can run per resource management, balanced against starter racial parity, point value, and cost... this system allots for almost infinite customizations. No tanked heavy with 2 heavy slots, a grenade and rep hives? Sure go for it! Scout with only sidearms, 5 highs and 2 grenades? Cool. Even so far as to say, DRMS left over could create discounts on buying gear per suit (proto basic with proto weapon leaves me with X% discount with Y% drms remaining).
Factoring in racial starting points vs statistical probabilities would take time and balance I know but it would open up so much more in terms of on field variation. It could even be extended to bonuses, you could pick bonuses from any roles but it would be cost heavy % per level to your drms.
This is just surface work and I'm bad with math but...thoughts?

Absolutely, I would like to keep the role specific suits with set slot loadouts and cpu/pg. I also want to keep the cpu pg pool on basic frames, just adding the drms pool and removing set slots for a large bit of variety. Since they have no bonuses the rearrangement of the slots could allow them to excel in areas while sacrificing others, instead of basically being meh all over. It would also bring purpose of sorts to skilling past basic dropsuit level 3, which right now serves no purpose..
